Heritage Futures

The National Trust conference (with the Canadian association of Heritage Professionals and Indigenous Heritage Circle) is Canada’s largest heritage learning and networking event. Held every year since 1974, this event brings a variety of professionals from activists, elected officials, policy makers, and property owners.

This year the National Trust for Canada 2026 conference will be held in Waterloo Regina, Ontario. The theme, Heritage Futures will explore how the heritage sector should respond to rapidly changing social, political, and environmental landscapes. The conference will focus on innovative approaches to conservation, stewardship, and leadership. Participants will engage in solution focused discussions, case studies, and ideas to address the future of Canada’s heritage.

With over 500+ professionals, policymakers, industry, and NGO leaders, academics, students, and volunteers, this conference offers a unique opportunity to connect with individuals from all over the heritage sector. Mark your calendars because this is an event you don’t want to miss!

The Red River Heritage Fair program encourages students to explore the history of our country in a dynamic and hands-on environment. Students from grades 4 t0 9 use the medium of their choice to recount the stories of the people, events and key moments from Canadian history. The selected projects from participating schools are then presented at the Red River Heritage Fair.

Along with presenting their projects, at the fair the students also respond to questions from judges; participate in interactive workshops; and share their project with fellow students, parents, teachers, and community members. It is an exciting and fast-paced day of learning about Canada’s history with lots of awards to be won!

In 2024, Heritage Winnipeg published its commemorative book, Winnipeg 150: Stories Our Buildings Tell, celebrating 150 years of our great city! It has been a huge success, being on the best seller list and receiving many five star reviews.

Our non-profit, charitable organization is now proud to announce the launch of volume two, Winnipeg: Stories Our Buildings Tell! This book is full of new original artwork by Robert Sweeney and 120 more stories by the authors, Robert Sweeney and Heritage Winnipeg President, Greg Agnew. It is a celebration of the heritage buildings, vibrant communities, and diverse cultures that have shaped our city.

Join us at the Indigo bookstore in St. Vital Centre at 1225 St. Mary’s Road to purchase your copy for just $30, get it signed and chat with the book’s authors! All proceeds from book sales go towards supporting the conservation work of Heritage Winnipeg.

The National Trust Conference will be in Halifax this year with heritage volunteers, policymakers, and professionals from across Canada.
