Removal of Arlington Bridge Moves Forward
The removal of the Arlington Bridge has begun. On July 16, 2026, crews removed the first piece of the historic bridge, the official start of its decommissioning and removal. The work is expected to take approximately two years.
Demolition of the bridge will begin in phases with the southern section removed first, followed by the northern portion in 2027. The work will be done alongside CPKC rail operations below.
Built in 1912 and closed in November 2023 due to structural concerns, the Arlington Bridge had long been an important connection between the North End to central Winnipeg on either side of the CPKC rail yards.

The City of Winnipeg will begin work on the design of a new bridge, with funding and construction timelines to be determined in the years ahead.
Heritage Winnipeg will continue to follow this project as work progresses and plans for a new bridge take shape.
