Remembering Councillor Jason Schreyer
One Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, Jason Schreyer, councillor for the City of Winnipeg’s Elmwood-East Kildonan ward, unexpectedly passed away at age 57. Schreyer was first elected to city council in 2014, and re-elected in 2018 and 2022. The son of Ed Schreyer, former Manitoba premier and Governor-General of Canada, he is remember by his colleagues at city hall as being a hardworking, passionate, empathetic individual who loved to sing. Heritage Winnipeg worked with Schreyer as he advocated for built heritage in his ward, and throughout the city during his time on the City of Winnipeg’s Historical Buildings and Resource Committee and Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development. Schreyer’s dedication to serving his community, thoughtfulness and enthusiasm will not be forgotten. Heritage Winnipeg extends our deepest condolences to Schreyer’s family, friends and colleagues – he will be truly missed.
