Heritage Winnipeg’s 22nd annual Doors Open Winnipeg is coming up fast – are you ready to celebrate the stories our buildings tell? This FREE event will be taking place May 24 and 25 throughout the city, with exciting new events and fantastic returning favourites. No matter your interests or how many times you have attended, there will surely be something for you to enjoy.

Newcomer Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg is ready to party for its 100th anniversary with an event unlike anything Doors Open has seen before. Take a bus tour of 17 Wing, watch a flypast, chat with military personnel, put yourself to the test with the “Fitness for Operational Requirements of Canadian Armed Forces Employment Evaluation” and more!

The North East Winnipeg Historical Society will be opening the doors at the Elmwood Curling Club for the first time, and the Seven Oaks Historical Society is putting on a new walking tour all about the Scotia area’s resilience during the 1950 flood. The First Presbyterian Church and Living Prairie Museum are both making their inaugural appearances, with fascinating history and heritage awaiting you. The Millennium Centre will also be hosting a new participant, Black History Experience Manitoba, putting on a dynamic event that will be music to your ears!

CN 2747 is open again under its new enclosure, Centre du patrimoine returns after a four-year hiatus, and the Law Courts are back for the first time since 2019! The Vaughan Street Jail is still going strong – did you know they have won a People’s Choice Award for 12 consecutive years, recognizing their outstanding performances? It is not one to be missed! And don’t forget to check out all the other hidden gems put on by hard-working volunteers year after year. They are passionate about their causes and would love to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you.

Lastly, be sure to visit the Exchange District, Winnipeg’s own National Historic Site that is so deserving of adoration and protection! Register for the Exchange District BIZ’s walking tour to learn all about the history of the area, or sign up for a ghost sign walking tour to learn about the businesses that shaped the buildings we see today. Feel the embrace of the community at 75 Albert Street or check out the Costume Museum of Canada’s exhibit that looks at the history “worn beneath”. And while you are in the area, be sure to stop by City Hall to say hello to the Mayor!
