Winnipeg Free Press: Province’s francophone society to take possession of St. Boniface’s old city hall

Good news for Winnipeg’s Francophone community: the former St. Boniface City Hall (219 Provencher Blvd) will be sold to the Société de la francophonie manitobaine. The City of Winnipeg’s earlier announcement that both the former City Hall and former St. Boniface Fire Hall (212 rue Dumoulin) would be sold to Manitoba Possible for $10,000 attracted a great deal of publicity, as the low price of the buildings had not been disclosed to any of Manitoba’s francophone organizations.

This culminated in a 11-hour hearing with the City of Winnipeg’s Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development on March 15th, 2021 with numerous delegates speaking on the cultural importance of the former City Hall to the francophone community.

The former Fire Hall will remain in possession of Manitoba Possible.
