Will You Help Support Our City’s Built Heritage?

As a charitable organization, Heritage Winnipeg is asking for your help to support our efforts to protect and revitalise our city’s irreplaceable built heritage. Your contribution to our 2024 December Donation Drive is an investment in the future of all Winnipeggers, helping conserve the heritage in the city we all love and call home!

To say thank you for your charitableness, all donations will receive 10% off select Heritage Winnipeg merchandise. Donations of $850 or more will also receive the donor’s name or organization logo in our thank you post on this website. Regardless of how much you can donate, contributions of all amounts make an impact and are greatly appreciated!

In this giving season, we ask you to consider contributing generously to our 2024 December Donation Drive so we can continue our important work. Donate online by clicking the button below or calling our office at 204-942-2663. Be sure to donate on or before December 31st, 2024 to receive a 2024 tax receipt which will be emailed to you.

Your donation can make a real difference! This past year we have made great strides in advocating for, educating about and celebrating Winnipeg’s built heritage. We launched our newest publication, Winnipeg 150: Stories Our Buildings Tell, a delightful book commemorating Winnipeg’s 150th anniversary through built heritage, which quickly became a best seller. Our 38th Annual Preservation Awards honoured the people and projects that went above and beyond in the conservation of built heritage. Heritage Winnipeg’s President was a volunteer judge at the 2024 Red River Heritage Fair where our organization sponsored three awards, recognizing students’ worthy projects about our built heritage. The 21st edition of our Doors Open Winnipeg event was a great success, with building and guest participation continuing to increase every year since the pandemic. Heritage Winnipeg also supported the community through student jobs, volunteer opportunities, free events, partnerships and providing many resources and public services.

We were thrilled to see many of the projects we have advocated for and supported over the years moving forward in 2024. The 1923 Odd Fellows Home at 4025 Roblin Boulevard and the 1902 Gregg Building at 52 Albert Street both reopened, adaptively reused to better serve their communities. The 1914 Rubin Block at 270 Morley Avenue is finally set to be redeveloped after a long vacancy. Phase II of the “Kennedy House Restoration Project” began, moving this rare 1866 Gothic Revival house one step closer to being open to the public again. The City of Winnipeg officially committing over $12 million to the rehabilitation of the 1905 Carnegie Library building at 380 William Avenue so the City of Winnipeg Archives can finally return home! Five buildings and one statue were added to the City of Winnipeg’s List of Historical Resources, protecting them from alteration of their character defining elements or demolition. The first phase of conservation work at the 1911 Union Station at 123 Main Street was completed along with a 25 year agreement that will allow the Winnipeg Railway Museum and our Streetcar 356 Rehabilitation Project to stay in their home at the railway station. Additionally, we continued our conservation work and management of the 1912 Millennium Centre (Bank of Commerce) at 389 Main Street, allowing it to serve the community as an event space and film set. Contributing to our 2024 December Donation Drive will allow us to carry on this important work and more!

On behalf of Heritage Winnipeg’s Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, we thank you for your generosity. Together we can make a real difference to protect Winnipeg’s architectural gems!
