Historic Magicians’ Plaque Missing from Winnipeg’s Former Union Bank Building

A piece of Winnipeg’s magical history is missing!

The plaque commemorating the founding of the International Brotherhood of Magicians has disappeared from the former historic Union Bank Building on Main Street, now the RRC’s Paterson GlobalFoods Institute.

It was here that Len Vintus began building an international network of magicians in 1922. Unveiled in 1986, the exterior plaque celebrated Winnipeg’s place in the history of an organization that would attract some of magic’s biggest names.

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, escape artist Dean Gunnarson is offering a $500 reward for its return. Anyone with information can contact him through social media (Facebook or Instagram).

Our heritage markers tell stories worth protecting. Let’s help bring this one home!
