Showcasing Our Heritage!

Heritage Winnipeg would like to thank Nicole Tierhs for her generous donation of her original artwork depicting St. Boniface City Hall at 219 Provencher Boulevard. Tierhs created the piece for Heritage Winnipeg’s summer 2024 Showcase Our Heritage art contest. Our first ever art contest, it was open to all styles, skill levels and mediums of visual arts, depicting something based on or inspired by Winnipeg’s built heritage. Tierhs’ media collage with watercolour painting was selected as one of the contest’s winners, capturing a striking portrait of the historic St. Boniface landmark. The artwork was generously gifted to us by Tierhs “in appreciation of Heritage Winnipeg, whose work in advocacy, preservation, and thoughtful reuse help keep Winnipeg’s built history living and present.” Thank you to Tierhs for sharing her talents and celebrating Winnipeg’s built heritage!

“219 Provencher Blvd” by Nicole Tierhs. Watercolour, ink, collage.

From the artist:

This piece is fueled by my personal connection to this historic building, where I spent the last couple of years working on the third floor. I’ve always been struck by how beautifully the surrounding nature complements the building’s charm and character. I sought to capture that harmony by incorporating the trees and flowers that surround 219 Provencher, depicting both winter and summer.

She graduated from Red River College’s Graphic Design program in 2021 and has since supported local organizations in the environmental and trade sectors. As an emerging artist, she hopes to continue growing her creative practice while deepening her involvement in Winnipeg’s arts community and animal welfare causes.
