Help Protect Our City’s Built Heritage!

As a nonprofit charitable organization, Heritage Winnipeg is asking for your help to support our efforts protecting, revitalising and celebrating our city’s irreplaceable built heritage. Your contribution to our 2025 December Donation Drive is an investment in the future of all Winnipeggers, helping conserve our historical buildings so they can continue serving their communities for generations to come!

This past year we have made great strides in built heritage conservation alongside the community. The 1970 Centennial Fountain at 311 Broadway and the 1911 Midland Railway Building (Freight House) at 200 Isabel Street both became designated heritage buildings. The Lemay Forest in St. Norbert, a sensitive natural and cultural heritage area, is set to become a protected as a provincial park. Renovation work has resumed at the 1905 Carnegie Library building at 380 William Avenue, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility for the City of Winnipeg Archives after being vacant for 12 years. The Manitoba Municipal Board has recommended that an adequate parking plan be developed for the 1913 Granite Curling Club building at 22 Granite Way which satisfies both the club and the City of Winnipeg, ensuring the historic building remains viable and the housing project planned for the west parking lot can be built. Phase 1 of the capital renewal project at the 1874 Bleak House at 1637 Main Street was completed, and with no more imminent safety issues, the City of Winnipeg is now looking towards Phase 2 of conservation work.

We continued to celebrate built heritage at our Annual Preservation Awards and Doors Open Winnipeg events, and held our first ever book sale. We have persisted with our conservation work and management of the 1912 Millennium Centre at 389 Main Street, this year arranging for the restoration of the hardwood flooring on the mezzanine level. We have supported the community through student jobs, mentoring and volunteer opportunities; provided valuable historical research to the public, professionals and media; and worked with buildings owners, communities and organizations to tirelessly advocate for built heritage.

In this giving season, we ask you to consider contributing generously to our 2025 December Donation Drive so we can continue our important work. Be sure to donate on or before December 31st, 2025 to receive a 2025 charitable tax receipt.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, THANK YOU!
Together we can make a real difference in our community!
