Advocating for Heritage Sensitive Development

Today, at the City of Winnipeg’s SPC on Property and Development meeting, Executive Director Cindy Tugwell spoke in opposition of an appeal for a variance at 120/128 James Avenue regarding a 4-storey addition, and an adjacent 109 ft. new build. Heritage Winnipeg supports this addition and infill project as it will contribute to the density in the downtown by bringing in more residential living prompting more amenities, increasing safety of the area, and give new life to these buildings. The developers ultimately designed a project that was sensitive to the heritage streetscape in the Exchange District, a national historic site.
