Historical Winnipeg Book Sale A Success

Heritage Winnipeg celebrated “I Love to Read Month” on February 7th, 2025 with our first-ever book sale! A cheerful crowd of curious folks and heritage enthusiasts visited the evening event at our office in the historic Hammond Building at 63 Albert Street. Some of the Heritage Winnipeg team was on hand to chat about our organization’s important work and reminisce about our city’s past. A wonderful selection of history and heritage books, new and old, were available for purchase along with Heritage Winnipeg merchandise. And anyone who is a fan of haunted history was in for a treat, as local author and award winning tour guide Matthew Komus was the special guest, selling his spooky book of ghost stories.

The book sale was a great success, raising funds for Heritage Winnipeg and helping worthwhile books find new homes. We would like to thank everyone who contributed books to the sale, made a purchase or even just stopped by to learn about Heritage Winnipeg! The book sale received great feedback and with lots of interest in Heritage Winnipeg hosting similar events in the future. If you missed our book sale, be sure to check out the Heritage Winnipeg store. It has a carefully curated selection of new books, apparel, accessories and prints that celebrate Winnipeg’s wonderful built heritage!

The book sale was the second time Heritage Winnipeg took part in First Fridays in the Exchange, with our Local Artist Showcase on November 1st, 2024, being the first. First Fridays in the Exchange is an arts and culture event held on the first Friday of each month. Operated by an independent, non-profit, membership-based organization, it encourages everyone to explore what Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District has to offer through art exhibits, engaging talks, delicious dining, unique shopping, pop up events and more! With all kinds of interesting events taking place in the Hammond Building as part of First Fridays in the Exchange, the place was buzzing with people excited to discover Winnipeg’s rich culture. Becoming a member of the organization has allowed Heritage Winnipeg to put on events we know our dedicated heritage supporters will enjoy and are also introducing a new crowd to celebrating and advocating for built heritage. We hope to continue participating in First Fridays in the Exchange and encourage you to check out all the other terrific events taking part every month!
