A New Chapter Begins

On January 10th, 2024, the first meeting of the North West Winnipeg Historical Society was held! This new organization is committed to shining a light on some of the history of north west Winnipeg that has otherwise been forgotten. Their mission is to to record, preserve, and promote the history of north west Winnipeg for present and future generations. Currently made up of four executive members, the society will be incorporated in the next few months and launch a website to engage with the community. Moving forward, the society plans to start marking historical landmarks, conducting walking tours, and publishing of material like books and articles, and videos showing the area’s history and built heritage. Their long term goal is to get involved with the preservation and restoration of landmark buildings and features of the area, having an influence on conservation matters.

Are you interested in getting involved? Visit their Facebook page or send them an email at nwwpghs@gmail.com! And don’t forget to check out the blog, Stories of Scotia, that shares some of the history of the area – written by North West Winnipeg Historical Society President Kenneth Ingram!

Thank you to Kenneth Ingram for sharing this information with us. Best of luck with with the new society!
