Heritage Winnipeg’s Annual Preservation Awards
Since 1985, Heritage Winnipeg, a non profit, charitable organization established in 1978, has celebrated the Annual Preservation Awards. The event recognizes the people, organizations and building projects that go above and beyond in the conservation and advancement of Winnipeg’s built heritage. Awards are presented in three categories: Heritage Conservation, Distinguished Service and Youth. Nominations can be made by anyone and judging is undertaken by a committee of heritage professionals. The awards are handed out in the spring for work completed the previous calendar year.
Heritage Conservation Award
This award recognizes special efforts of specific projects to protect, conserve and reuse structures of high historic or architectural value. It may be awarded for commercial, institutional or residential projects, involving the sensitive and adaptive use and/or re-use of the structure, providing for their long-term sustainability. The award can acknowledge both building owners and professionals involved in the project. Structures do NOT need to be designated (on the City of Winnipeg’s List of Historical Resources).
Distinguished Service Award
This award recognizes the special contribution of individuals or organizations that have gone beyond professional duties and demonstrated a concerted effort and leadership in protecting, conserving, promoting or communicating the historic and/or architectural values of Winnipeg’s built heritage.
Youth Award
This award recognizes the special contribution of an individual under the age of thirty that has gone beyond professional duties and demonstrated a concerted effort and leadership in protecting, conserving, promoting or communicating the historic and/or architectural values of Winnipeg’s built heritage.
