Annual General Meeting

Wednesday, June 29th 2011

City Hall, 510 Main St.

Heritage Winnipeg hosted our Annual General Meeting for 2011 at City Hall on Wednesday, June 29th. Elizabeth Fleming, 1st Vice President, chaired the meeting and Councillor Grant Nordman welcomed everyone to City Hall. Cindy Tugwell gave an update on the year, and Penny McMillan presented the report of the Nominating Committee for new and retiring Directors. David McDowell took a moment to recognize Giles Bugailiskis, Senior Heritage Planner, who is retiring. Mr. McDowell moved a motion of thanks for his years of service.

Lisa Gardewine introduced the evening's speaker, Susan Algie, an architectural historian. Ms. Algie's topic was, "Middle of the Continent, Middle of the Century." She spoke for about 35 minutes about modern architecture in Winnipeg and the heritage issues which surround it. A slideshow and a report from a conference on modernist architecture in Canada accompanied her presentation. A brief question-and-answer period followed.
